 Periodicals

The Scottish Poetry Library has an extensive collection of literary journals - over seventy of which are current titles - housed on open shelves and available for anyone to use.

Go to Periodicals A-Z to see the full list of current titles taken by the Scottish Poetry Library.

The "little magazines" are notoriously ephemeral, yet, being the usual testing-ground for poets' early work, they are a vital part of poetry publishing. Since the journals are also the country's chief source of literary criticism, a collection like ours is of great value to scholars and to the interested reader.

We have created a unique research tool, the Scottish Poetry Index, to provide access to the wealth of poetry and related material published in selected titles in Scotland from the 1950s to the present.

The SPL is the place to come for current poetry magazines - and if you are an aspiring poet, you need to see as wide a range of current publishing as possible. We try to cover all titles produced in Scotland, and also collect from the rest of the UK, and from Europe. You can buy some of the magazines here too - we stock about 15 of the titles for sale.

There is also a shorter, printed list available from the library, of magazines which accept submissions of poetry.
