Poets'
A-Z » Lise Sinclair
Lise Sinclair lives in Fair Isle, the remote island midway
between Shetland and Orkney, where she was born (1971) and
brought up. She shifted seamlessly from a career in Fine Art
at Glasgow School of Art to parenting and subsistence crofting
with boat-builder husband Ian Best and gradually their four
children. Her poetry has appeared in various publications and been translated into some European languages.
Her booklet here was published by North Idea (2005). work is included in the SPL‘s collection of poems and translations from Shetland, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Latvia, All Points North (2006). She has had the luck and fortune to sing in beautiful places such as Rekjavik and Brittany, Orkney, Washington DC and sunny Glasgow aside from at home in Fair Isle and Shetland. Ivver Entrancin Wis (Shetland Music 2008) is her new CD of Shetland poetry by various poets set to music by Lise for cello, harp, viola and voice, and sung by her, launched with Fiddlers Bid at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall at the 2008 Celtic Connections festival.
