Ásberg Sigurðsson
Aðalsteinn Ásberg Sigurðsson was born in 1955 in Húsavík, north Iceland. After attending the Commercial College of Iceland in Reykjavík, he studied Icelandic language, music and acting. He has worked as a journalist and radio announcer, and on radio programmes.
In 1977 he made his literary debut with a book of poetry. He lived in Norway for some time but now lives in Reykjavík as a full-time writer, songwriter and publisher of music and literature. As well as 8 children's books, Aðalsteinn has published 10 volumes of poetry, a novel and short stories, along with many recordings of his lyrics and songs. He is currently the president of the Writers' Union of Iceland.
His most recent collections of poetry are Eydðibýli (Abandoned Farms, 2004) with photographs by Nökkvi Eliasson, and Hjartaborg (Borough of the Heart, 2007). His work is included in the SPL's collection of poems and translations from Shetland, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Latvia, All Points North (2006).
