Jerzy Jarniewicz, born 1958, has published eight volumes of poetry, most recently Oranzada (Orangeade, 2005). His work has been translated into many languages and presented in numerous magazines, including Irish Review, Lyric, Paris Review, Oxford Poetry, Index on Censorship, Poetry Review, Poetry Ireland Review, Poetry Wales, Edinburgh Review, Metre, Krino, as well as in anthologies The Penguin Book of Twentieth Century in Poetry (1999) and Altered State.

Jarniewicz has written extensively on contemporary Polish, British and Irish poetry for various literary journals; he has published studies of Philip Larkin, Seamus Heaney, Douglas Dunn and Craig Raine. He has translated, among others, the poetry of Hugh MacDiarmid, Charles Tomlinson, Craig Raine, Christopher Reid, Simon Armitage, and fiction by John Banville, Philip Roth, Nadine Gordimer, Edmund White, and Raymond Carver. His most recent work is a new translation of James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Jarniewicz is a lecturer in English Literature at the universities of Lódz and Warsaw, and works as editor of the literary translation journal Literatura na Swiecie (Warsaw).
