A-Z » Angus Peter Campbell
Angus Peter Campbell (Aonghas Pàdraig Caimbeul) was born on the
Island of South Uist. A graduate in Politics and History from the University
of Edinburgh he has worked as a lecturer, lobster-fisherman, forester,
builder's apprentice, newspaper, radio and television journalist and columnist. He has published two collections of poetry and six Gaelic novels.
Sorley
MacLean said of him ‘I have no doubts that Angus Peter Campbell
is one of the few really significant living poets in Scotland, writing
in any language.’ He was awarded the Bardic Crown for Gaelic Poetry
in 2001, the same year in which he was also given a Creative Scotland
Award. His novel An Oidhche Mus do Sheòl Sinn was published to
critical acclaim in 2003. His latest collection of poetry is
Meas Air Chrannaibh/Fruit on branches (Acair, 2007).
He starred in the Gaelic feature film
Seachd: The Inaccessible Pinnacle.
He lives on the Isle of Skye with his wife Lyndsay and their 6 children,
where he holds the post of Iain Crichton Smith Writing Fellow with the
Highland Council.
