Amanda Aizpuriete (Latvia) is a poet and translator. Born in 1956, she is author of numerous collections. She has translated the works of many important twentieth century writers and poets from German, English, Russian and Ukrainian including Georg Trakl, Franz Kafka, Virginia Woolf, Ken Kesey, Joseph Brodsky, John Updike and recently Ahmatova. Several selections of Aizpuriete's poetry have been published in Germany to great critical acclaim. In 1999, she received the prestigious Horst Bienek Prize. In 2002, her selected poems came out in Swedish translation.
