| Edwin Morgan's A Book of Lives wins the student vote for the T S Eliot Prize
Secondary school students were invited to shadow the judging process for the prestigious T S Eliot Prize again this year. They could download sample poems from each of the ten shortlisted books and vote for a winner. Edwin Morgan's A Book of Lives was their choice, suggesting that he will continue to have an appreciative audience in the 21st century.
The judges meanwhile gave the £15,000 prize to Sean O'Brien for The Drowned Book (Picador; available to borrow from the SPL). O'Brien had already won the Forward Prize so was thrilled to make it a hat-trick. In his post-award blog on the Guardian website, he praised Edwin Morgan: ‘the scale, range and formal delight of Edwin Morgan's work are so large as to contain the rest of us several times over.'
