New books from New Zealand

[ « ]

We're taking delivery of brand new poetry books from New Zealand, courtesy of support from Creative New Zealand.

Whether you'd like to dip into New Zealand poetry, or find particular poets from Janet Frame to Hone Tuwhare, come and explore this great new addition to our collections in the coming months. This is Robyn Marsack, the SPL's Scottish-New-Zealander Director, diving into the first of the book boxes as they arrived... (no, we couldn't pose her in a dignified fashion at a table, she was too keen to get to the books). Now to catalogue those piles of books and get them onto the shelves for you to borrow.

Look out for a new web exchange to help you discover more poets. In the meantime, you'll be able to hear New Zealand poets in the flesh in May, at a reading by Paris-based NZ poet Andrew Johnston and New Zealand Scot Gerrie Fellows on Thursday 29 May, 7.30pm at the Scottish Poetry Library (£5/£3, please book in advance at reception@spl.org.uk).
