Brookwood Library opens its SPL collection

[ « ]

Liz Lochhead and Depute Provost Cllr Cathy MacInnes were guests of honour at Brookwood Library.

Brookwood Library in Bearsden opened the thirteenth Scottish Poetry Library collection on International Poetry Day (Wednesday 21 March).

Liz Lochhead read a selection of her own work, including 'Bairnsang' and the firm favourite 'Your Aunties' and 'A Glasgow Nonsense Rhyme for Molly', as well as a roof-raising version of Edwin Morgan's 'Canedolia', in which she was joined by Robyn Marsack from the Scottish Poetry Library. Depute Provost Cathy MacInnes, and Robyn Marsack, both spoke about the opening of the collection and the importance, and pleasure, of poetry. From left to right, our picture shows David Kenvyn of East Dunbartonshire Libraries, Depute Provost MacInnes, Robyn Marsack and Liz Lochhead.

The collection of 300 poetry books ranges from anthologies like 100 Favourite Scottish Poems to Finnish poetry, from Marion Angus and Simon Armitage right through the alphabet to Rab Wilson and Andrew Young.

Scottish Poetry Library outreach collections are located in libraries and arts venues throughout Scotland. They are supplementary to the core collection of over 30,000 items held in Edinburgh, and allow users in the local area to access Scottish Poetry Library holdings.

Poetry-lovers can explore the new Bearsden collection by visiting Brookwood Library, 166 Drymen Road, Bearsden, G61 3RJ, tel 0141 942 6811, open Mon-Thurs 10am-8pm, Fri-Sat 10am-5pm. Anyone holding an East Dunbartonshire Libraries borrower’s card will be able to borrow from the collection straight away.
