 SPL international projects

The Scottish Poetry Library aims to place Scottish poetry in an international context. We initiate a range of projects to encourage connections between poets, and to expand the Library's international poetry and literature resources.

› Introducing New Zealand poets
› Scotland Canada Exchange 2006

› European Poetry Information Centre (EPIC)
› Japan 2001 Fund

Introducing New Zealand Poets

To partner its ongoing acquisition of New Zealand poetry collections, the SPL has asked Scottish writers to introduce poems they admire by New Zealand poets. The introductions begin in May 2008 with Alan Riach introducing Bill Manhire, and a new introduction will be added each month until March 2009.

Scotland Canada Exchange

The Scotland Canada Exchange is the first virtual poetry exchange between Scotland and Canada, run in partnership with Canada's poetry magazine, Arc.

From April 2006 until April 2007, you'll be treated to 12 monthly installments featuring Scottish poets introducing the work of their favourite Canadians, and Canadian poets presenting the work of their chosen Scots.

Japan 2001 Fund

The Japan 2001 Fund enabled the Scottish Poetry Library to expand its collection of Japanese poetry. With Alec Finlay, the SPL used the renga platform to create a communal poem, in the form of linked haiku.
