Dark Matter: Poems of space
Poets have long been stargazers, moved by the strange infinities of the universe to translate them into metaphor and song. But what do they know of the science of astronomy? And what do astronomers know of poetry? Eminent cosmologist Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell and astronomer Paul Murdin read from leading international poets who have created new work inspired by their discussions with space scientists.

2010 is the hundredth anniversary of the Mexican Revolution. To mark the occasion, the Poetry Translation Centre has invited a trio of Mexican poets to the UK - Coral Bracho and David Huerta (both of whom write in Spanish) and Victor Teran (who writes in Zapotec, an indigenous and endangered Mexican language). Coral is translated by Katherine Pierpont and Tom Boll, David Huerta by Jamie McKendrick and Tom Boll; Victor Teran will by David Shook. As part of a month long tour to Britain's key literary venues, the poets and a selection of translators will be visiting the SPL for an afternoon of readings and lively discussion. £5/3 |

Chase Twichell
"Full of sharp observation, both of the world and herself, unsentimental poems with a sinewy intellectual toughness, and, as the book progresses, they open out into a stark, sometimes bewildered clarity." – Robert Pinksy said of Chase Twichell's work. We're delighted to have her read to us in Edinburgh, in conjunction with her forthcoming book, Horses Where the Answers Should Have Been: New & Selected Poems (Bloodaxe, 2010), and to chat with fellow editor, our own Robyn Marsack.
