Led by Gerry Stewart, P4/5/6 pupils from Colinto, Lismore and Newcraighall primary schools turned the Poetry Library into a winter wonderland when they created an avalanche of snowflakes in words, pictures and paper.

Here are just a few of their poems.

Snow White

Snow white and bright
Never know where I'm landing
On trees or on houses
Wind blowing me high and low
Flakes so cold and beautiful
Leaving no trace behind me
Always on the move
Kids faces so happy to see me
Everywhere wonderful snow

Ceilidh Jack, Colinton Primary

Snow

an extract

Snow feels like cotton wool
on my face.
North is very cold.
Absolutely freezing cold.
Kiss of cold air on my face
Eagles flapping wings.

Toni Jack, Lismore Primary

Snowflake in Spain

an extract

I can hear joyful children playing in the sand
I fall like a beautiful dance

Caitlin, Newcraighall Primary

Sailing

Sailing down the calm breeze
Not knowing where I'll land
Ooo, what a lovely view.
Wonderful feeling of freedom.
Floating frantically and smelling like air.

Snowflakes are landing on my eyelashes
Looking over the hills, I could see a candy covered field
Amazing hearing the wind in my ears.
Kicking snow so crunchy and thick.
Everything is wonderful about the touch of snow.

Warren Berwick, Lismore Primary

Snowflake Fun

I come from the clouds, they're fluffy and cuddly.
I fall because it's fun like a rollercoaster.
I feel excited.
I fall on a horse and ride like a cowboy.
I see cows, pigs and chickens.
I smell a stinky pigsty.
I taste fresh green grass.
I feel the horses' fun.
I hear the breeze running around my whole body.
I fall delicately.

Hannah, Colinton Primary

I Come From Snow

I come from snow.
I want to see the world.
I feel excited.
I want to see my friends and family.
I touch the earth, it feels funny.
I smell wood burning,
I taste brick, it is lovely.
I hear cows kissing
I see purple flowers dying.
I fall soft and gently.

Christy, Colinton Primary

I'm a Snowflake

an extract

I fell, tasting the cold air like cherry drops
Lightly falling like a butterfly

Rachael, Newcraighall Primary
