With heads full of stars, galaxies, atoms and asteroids after an interactive tour of the Royal Observatory Visitors Centre, P6 pupils from Fox Covert Primary joined poet, Ian McDonough and physicist, Brian McNeil at the Scottish Poetry Library to convert the fiery energy of their imagination into the poetry of the planets.

Infinite and infinitesimal

I have fluff in my pocket
which is smaller than a bit of paper
which is bigger than a stone
which is smaller than the world
which is bigger than a T-shirt
which is smaller than the universe
which is bigger than a hair
which is smaller than a badge
which is bigger than a germ

Group Poem by P6 Fox Covert Primary

Milky way

Millions of galaxies
Interesting and new
Light years away
Kings of me and you.
Yes, I think they are beautiful.

Wondering when we'll discover the end
All the excitement
Yes, it is beautiful.

Space

an extract

Soaring through space
At a fantastic pace
Going past the Solar System
Looking at the stars

Space man

Travelling through the stars,
Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto.
Galaxies, new solar systems
All dark, noiseless and stuffy.
Speeding, I reach the Universe's end.
I look back.
I can't see the Earth, but I see
Many millions of miles back
Ah, a spacecraft following me.
Turning, I speed back to Earth.
Some sights, no company, but I'm very proud.
I can see a very distant glowing Earth,
Everyone welcoming me.
Five months I say to myself,
I am home.
