Guided by Christian McEwen, P5 pupils from Davidson's Mains Primary took a fresh look at their own hands and P4 pupils from East Craigs Primary tuned in to the sounds of silence.

The blue of the sea

Silence is the blue of the sea shimmering in the golden sun,
The whisper of the children in the classes.
Silence is the squeaking of a farm mouse running across the floor,
And the pattering of the rain on the window sill.
Silence is a pencil scratching across the page of a book,
The purring of a fully grown cat.
Silence is the whisper of the wind outside my bedroom window.

My hands

The lines on my hands are like little
Rivers flowing through the mountains.
My thumb is like a guard dog
That protects everyone else.
My index finger is like a secretary
Because of its name.
My middle finger is like a tall tree.
My ring finger is just like me.
My pinkie is very very small
But smarter than them all.

My hand

My hand likes to write,
My hand hates to fall.
My hand remembers throwing balls,
My hand dreams of painting.
My hand likes to catch,
My hand hates the cold.
My hand remembers swimming,
My hand dreams of drawing.

Strange but true - hands love you

My thumb is like the king of thieves stealing all the credit.
My pointing finger points its way through the army charge.
My middle finger is so long it stretches longer than Big Ben.
My ring finger is greedy it takes all the rings and jewellery.
My pinkie is so nimble it creeps its way through
My hand wants to be the king of hands shouting got his
breakfast.

Silence

Silence is the fox creeping up on a rabbit.
Silence is a pencil writing on paper
Silence is at midnight.
Silence is pitch black colour.
Silence is an owl swooping down on its prey.
Silence is the moon shining brightly in the sky.
Silence is all around us.

Silence

Silence is purple,
Silence is a library at midnight,
Silence is a book page being turned,
Silence is a fox looking for its food,
Silence is when everyone is sleeping,
Silence is an owl flying through the night.
