1st Prize:
I Should Always Use My Green Cross Code
It was on a quiet road indeed,
With my puppy dog on a lead,
I was going to cross the road one day,
But I did it in the very, very wrong way.
The ground was carpeted in snow,
It all happened with the ball I decided to throw,
When the ball went across the road
I didn't use my Green Cross Code!
I didn't listen, think or look,
Until I got a very big spook
When a fast, fast car came by,
I was looking somewhere else till it caught my eye.
I looked at the other side and got there quick,
Then I thought ‘how could I be so thick?'
Now I know when I'm crossing the road
I should always use my Green Cross Code!
Sophie Drury, P6 St. Mark's RC Primary School
Runners-up:
I am a Traffic Island
I am a traffic island,
I help you on your way,
I am there all night and day, for the reason I
am there
is
To... keep people safe,
from the shark infested waters of the road.
Think of yourself as the small fish,
and the cars and buses as the big sharks,
But no fear, I am here because sharks can't
survive out of water!
I am a traffic island,
I will stay for your safety,
for if you cross at me
you will not have to flee
as I am here.
